A leading community services provider is seeking a high-calibre Senior Payroll Officer to support a workforce of over 1,500 staff during a period of significant organisational transformation. In an environment where Australian payroll is a critical risk mitigation function, this role offers the opportunity to lead continuous improvement initiatives and ensure a <1% error rate across complex, multi-award pay runs.
About the Role
As the Senior Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for assisting in all areas of the payroll process while providing expert guidance to staff and managers. Your responsibilities include:
- Managing end-to-end payroll processing for 1,400+ employees while adhering to strict procedures to ensure absolute accuracy.
- Ensuring compliance with relevant award determinations, Enterprise Agreements, and scheduled minimum wage increases.
- Administering the Payroll System and self-service portals to maintain system integrity, currency of manuals, and rigorous data guidelines.
- Leading and implementing process improvement initiatives, including the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training materials.
- Managing and administering all payroll aspects related to complex employee transitions and lifecycle changes, including supporting WorkCover claims and Employment Relations cases.
- Applying expert knowledge to accurately calculate complex final entitlements and settlement figures, ensuring strict associated regulatory and tax compliance.
- Serving as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the wider People and Culture team and acting as a point of escalation in the absence of the Payroll Team Leader.
About You
- 3–5 years of demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of end-to-end payroll processing.
- Well-developed knowledge of legislation relating to awards, Enterprise Agreements, PAYG, FBT, and payroll tax.
- Demonstrated competency in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel) and the ability to undertake systems-related project activities.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills to build effective relationships across all levels and provide accurate advice on complex payroll matters.
- Relevant qualifications in Payroll and/or Finance principles are essential.
